Build your perfect watercolor palette before you fill it

EasySwatch is a free visual watercolor palette planner created by artists, for artists.

Choose a physical palette, arrange pans at their actual sizes, and explore more than 600 professional watercolor paints. You can see how your colors and pans work together before committing paint to palette.

It started with Pam’s ever-changing palette.

The first EasySwatch palette wasn’t a product. It was Pam’s.

Pam is always modifying her watercolor palettes—a smaller setup for travel, different colors for a workshop, or a few carefully chosen paints for wherever she’s going next.

Planning everything on the kitchen table worked, but it was messy and slow. Swatching and re-swatching was a pain and made her reluctant to optimize her palette for a particular trip. So her techie husband Dale, who enjoys a good creative problem, built a visual tool that made rearranging a palette as easy as dragging a pan across the screen.

That little tool grew into the over-engineered EasySwatch you see today. We’re making it free for other watercolor painters, with some spiffy Pro features available for a small charge.

Plan a physical watercolor palette virtually

Choose your palette and arrange pans of different sizes visually. Fill them with “paint.” EasySwatch shows filled pans at realistic proportions, so you can experiment with different layouts and see what will actually fit. With the Pro version you can print that swatch sheet at 100% scale.

Move things around as often as you like. No wasted paint. No sticky fingers. No re-swatching. No discovering one pan too late that your perfect layout doesn’t quite work.

Explore more than 600 watercolor paints or add your own

EasySwatch includes more than 600 professional watercolor colors from:

  • Daniel Smith

  • Winsor & Newton

  • Schmincke

Compare watercolor paint colors and characteristics while building your palette. You can also add your own paints or custom color mixes.

We use the digital color swatches from the manufacturers but you can always use those for your planning and print out a sheet with the colors turned off to paint your own. That will always be more accurate.

“Wait—do I already own that color?”

We’ve asked ourselves the same question, usually while standing in an art-supply store with yet another tube in hand.

EasySwatch helps you manage your watercolor paint inventory, check which colors you already own, review their characteristics, and compare a tempting new paint with colors already in your collection.

Your paint drawer may still be chaotic. At least you’ll know what’s in it.

Made just for watercolor artists

EasySwatch began as the solution to one artist’s constantly changing palette. We thought other painters might find it useful too. This project isn’t some grand money making scheme, We built this for the community and just charge enough for the Pro version to pay for the servers and Dale’s coffee.

We hope it helps you spend less time rearranging pans, second-guessing colors, and wondering where that tube went and more time painting.
